Australia refugees increase

Dr Anne Pedersen Associate Professor at Murdoch University and fellow researcher Dr Lisa Hartley have jointly contributed an article to The Conversation about the underlying causes of prejudice in Australia towards asylum seekers.

Research has shown that common myths about asylum seekers being “queue jumpers” and “illegals,” fuelled the prejudice.

Dr Pedersen is an applied social/community psychologist.  Her main interests involve prejudice against different cultural groups – in particular asylum seekers, Indigenous Australians and Muslim Australians.
